Making a viral TikTok video can be challenging, as it depends on many factors such as timing, audience, and even luck. Creating a successful video is a combination of a great hook in your script, and deep understanding of your audience, some great editing, and a unique spin to trends.

During the Disney Encanto obsession on TikTok in winter 2021, I discovered Stephanie Beatriz who plays Rosa Diaz on "Brooklyn 99", also voices Mirabel in Encanto. It was such a huge contrast in her character work, so I figured this information would make a really fun video for Toynk's TikTok channel. This fact not only blew my mind, but about 6 million other people too!

 

At first glance it seemed I randomly went viral, but with the combination of being on trend, being authentic in the new information I learned, and using a trending Encanto song, it was a recipe for a viral video.

Minecraft Mood Lights

Never underestimate the power of old trending sounds. This trending sound seemed to disappear from the TikTok timeline, but by understanding that the Minecraft audience would be very interested in the collection of Minecraft Lights, it took off. 

The Toynk TikTok channel has a very loyal Minecraft fanbase.

Theme Song

Objective: Write and produce a really fun SUNNYD theme song. This song was modern, but still had a nostalgic sound and feel for the original SUNNYD branding.   

The SUNNYD marketing team really loved the song and posted it on their TikTok and Instagram reels.

The success in the video comes from hook. When the Minecraft community heard the question "Do you know someone who plays Minecraft every day?", they were hooked. Getting your audience's attention in the first 2 seconds in a video is key to keep retention rates steady.

During the Summer of 2022, I discovered that my beloved Sanrio character, Gudetama, was getting a Netflix show. Since Toynk.com sells a wide variety of Gudetama items, I ordered those items, and made this really fun video. 

Most of the viewers from this video had no idea that Gudetama was getting its own show. Presenting new information on TikTok definitely sparks some conversation and views. This was a very authentic reaction to the news, and it resonated with the Sanrio community.

There really is a strange phenomenon when people find out you have a special interest. For some reason that just sticks in their brain like concrete. From then on, they just keep gifting you the same thing every year.

​

I chose to align this perplexing idea with our Xbox weekly launch. Since XBOX is already a popular brand, and the video had a fun concept, all we had to do was ask the audience "What do people keep gifting you", and the comments came flooding in.
